When I saw new art work by Artist Miwon Park. As soon as I faced to the art work, I felt a warm feeling and stopped there for a while. It seems like the cozy energy from the art work made change the cold winter air to warm. The moment that time stopped in the picture, the very small and simple moment, and analog sensibility reminded me of my memories.
The rough hands in the art work that sew reminded me of my mom. I didn’t even imagine my mom is sewing but it naturally comes in my mind. There are words that remind you of a scene or feeling right in your head. When I hear the word ‘mom’ I think it will remind me the picture right in head. The artist captured the warmth in the painting. Warm and small moment, I’m pretty sure everyone probably has one. |
After receiving a request for the work, Artist Miwon Park said that she completed the work under inspiration by sewing torn clothes. Even sewing is moments that can completely concentrate in the work, she wanted capture the moment and express very simply. She wanted to show the scenes and feelings that we are familiar with, no matter how simple they are.
Sewing is very simple work but creative work in the same time. Sewing is a factor that reconstructs the original nature of the needle itself into the fabric and at the same time connects it to create a new form different from the first. But what the artist wants to say is not just about sewing. There are so many things around us that simple works but creates new values which is different from the first. These days, machines dominate human life sewing is like memorable memory which can make feel nostalgic.
Looking at the art work is like being able to stay for the moment in the picture. When I see art work I look back my life and appreciate of small and precious moments and things. In this sense, this work reminds me of the simple moment and keeps it in mind. Also, we can see people lives through sewing. It is same like our lives repeat day by day and creates new things. |
